Kevin launched the Cape Epic in 2004 at a time when mountain biking was a relatively unknown sport in South Africa. He followed his vision and created the world’s premier mountain bike race, which is regarded as the most sophisticated in its category globally.
In 2016 he secured the Cape Epic’s legacy by selling it to the world’s largest mass-participation endurance event company, Ironman/Wanda Sports. His new mandate, as the MD of Global Mountain Biking, is to create a global ‘Epic Series’ of qualifying races allowing Wanda Sport to capitalise on the worldwide growth of the sport.
To date the Epic Series has been expanded through acquisitions in Switzerland and Australasia. In addition, Kevin has secured the hosting of the opening leg of the UCI MTB World Cup in Stellenbosch, one week before the Absa Cape Epic, enhancing the Western Cape’s position as a global mountain bike racing authority.
