doping controls to remain in cycling- 28 Jan 2010 00:00:00

Out-of-competition doping controls in cycling are set to remain after a Spanish court rejected cyclist Carlos Roman Golbano's appeal.

Golbano was claiming that doping controls carried out away from competition are unconstitutional and a breach of individual rights.

Cycling‘s governing body (UCI) called the victory a ‘major step forward’ in the fight against doping. UCI had launched the case against Golbano together with the Spanish cycling federation.

Golbano had initially presented his case in 2007 after failing a blood test in 2004.
