Miami set to pocket Superbowl windfall

Miami set to pocket Superbowl windfall- 4 Feb 2010 00:00:00

Miami is set to pocket $153m by hosting this year’s Super Bowl XLIV between Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints.

A report by PricewaterhouseCoopers says that this Superbowl will see a 3% spending rise to $153 compared to last year’s event held in Tampa.

‘Compared to last year, South Florida will benefit from the return of several Super Bowl-related hospitality events, the higher hotel room rates in South Florida versus Tampa and a larger stadium capacity’, said Robert Canton, director of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ sports and tourism sector.

However, the figure is still 27% down on the record amount spent at a Superbowl when the Colts played the Bears in South Florida in 2007.

The Pricewaterhouse estimate the money the Super Bowl generates will boost the counties of Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.
