Cycling South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that sprinter, Nolan Hoffman, has been handed an 18-month suspension from racing by an Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel.
The panel came to their decision after Hoffman returned a positive test for high levels of the hormone Testosterone, following a sample taken from him on 18th October 2009.
The usual sentence for this type of doping is a two-year ban but the former South African Under-23 road race champion saw his ban reduced after pleading guilty.
Hoffman was racing for the Neotel professional team at the time of his positive test and was immediately dismissed from the team.
The 24-year old has had a promising start to his career having finished on the podium at a number of South African road races, he also won the opening stage of the 2009 Tour de Korea.
