Corona signs ATP sponsorship deal

Corona signs ATP sponsorship deal- 22 Feb 2010 00:00:00

Beer brand Corona Extra has signed a 5 and a half year deal with the ATP to become the top sponsor of the men's tennis tour.

The deal will start in May and will make Corona Extra the official beer sponsor of the tour.

Also included in the deal are specific marketing rights for Corona Extra, as well as allowing the company to have its logo on the nets at two-thirds of the ATP's 62 tennis tournaments.

The men's tennis tour had been searching for a main global sponsor since Mercedes-Benz ended its 12-year partnership when its contract expired with the ATP in 2008.

The deal with the beer brand may be controversial after calls for tighter restrictions on alcoholic drinks marketing.

The women's tennis tour has a title sponsor deal with Sony Ericsson, signed in 2005, that is about to expire.
