Ericsson signs R10m academy sponsorship- 8 Mar 2010 00:00:00

Ericsson South Africa has signed a deal to become the official sponsor of the Africa Sport Youth Development Academy.

The five-year deal will see Ericsson South Africa pay R10m for the sponsorship of the academy founded by former Bafana Bafana player Harold Legodi.

Joseph Molangoana and Lehlohonolo Masalela, both from Platinum Stars, Orlando Pirates’ Oupa Manyisa, Mpho Makola of Free State Stars and Patrick Phungwayo of Bidvest Wits are among the players mentored by the academy.

Former professional soccer player Jacob Mathathe, who is a shareholder at Ericsson, said the academy deserved the money to help them unearth more soccer talent in the country.

‘It’s all about ensuring we produce quality players for the 2014 Fifa World Cup. Jazzy Queen (Harold Legodi) must be commended for a job well done.’
