Durban to host 2018 announcement- 16 Mar 2010 00:00:00

Durban is set to host the election of the Winter Olympic Games 2018 host city on 6th July 2011.

The International Olympic Committee has just announced that all three cities applying to become candidates to host the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in 2018 have completed the first step by submitted their responses to the IOC Candidature Acceptance Procedure questionnaire.

Munich (Germany), Annecy (France) and PyeongChang (Republic of Korea) all had until 15th March to submit their files to the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The completed questionnaire provides the IOC with an overview of each of the applicant city’s project and is the key element in the first phase of the procedure leading to the election of the host city of the Olympic Winter Games in 2018.

The responses will now be studied by an IOC-appointed working group and a report made to the IOC Executive Board.

The Board will then meet in June in Lausanne to decide which cities will be accepted as Candidate Cities.
