Drug-testing will be over-seen by independent observers at next month's Tour de France according to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The move has been requested by cycling's governing body the UCI and is intended to increase transparency in the sport's ongoing battle against doping.

The independent observers will witness all phases of the doping controls, from the selection of riders to be tested to the management of results.

The observers, to be appointed by WADA, will publish a report into the UCI's testing after the Tour, which runs from 3rd – 25th July.

The International Cycling Union is also set to introduce scanners to help identify mechanical doping at next month’s Tour de France.
