SASCOC invites cities to bid for 2020

SASCOC invites cities to bid for 2020- 14 Jul 2010 00:00:00

Following the announcement by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) that the country will bid for the 2020 Olympic Games, the governing body has invited cities to state their intention to host the iconic event.

SASCOC announced that it aims to provide a world-class city to host the 2020 Olympic Games following the country’s success at staging the 2010 World Cup.

Africa has never staged an Olympic Games and Cape Town lost out to Athens when it bid in 2004.

The country’s cities are now being encouraged to come forward state their intention to host the Games and it is believed that the most likely cities to bid will be Cape Town and Durban.

The country allayed fears that it wasn’t up to hosting a major sporting event by staging a successful World Cup and has the legacy of infrastructure and stadiums to bid for the Olympics.
