The Premier Soccer League is set to pilot a new online capturing system in order to improve communications between the referees and the League.

PSL match officials were familiarised with the system for the first time during a seminar which was hosted in Potchefstroom this week.

The new system allows match officials to capture all the details of the match, including yellow cards, suspensions, substitutions, and goals scored, straight after the game and this goes directly into the database management system.

This will result in all the statistics being available immediately, instead of the PSL capturing them manually.

‘We are constantly striving to improve our service delivery to clubs, media and other stakeholders,’ PSL CEO Kjetil Siem stated.

‘It's still a pilot project for now and it will be rolled out during the upcoming season. We will still continue to do both manual and online capturing until such time we ready to go fully online.

‘We live in an environment where technology can assist us in every facet of football and this is just another way of using technology to our benefit.

‘This system also cuts the middleman out so that the required information is captured from the source allowing for as little errors as possible. The referees will have to sign off each and every online match report using their unique online signature.’

The new online system follows the successful implementation of the referee's communications kit.
