US Open prize money increased

The US Open prize money will top $22.6m this year, an increase of $1m compared to 2009, according to the US Tennis Association.



The men's and women's singles champions will earn a record $1.7m and the ability to earn an additional $1m in bonus money based on their performances in the US Open Series.



The top three men's and women's finishers of the US Open Series are also given additional money at the US Open. 



This year's competition includes a 6.7 per cent increase in men's and women's singles prize money over 2009.

The two-week US Open tournament begins 30th August at Flushing Meadow, New York.
