Soccer City naming rights case delayed- 4 Aug 2010 00:00:00
The legal case between FNB and the umbrella group National Stadiums surrounding the ownership of the naming rights to the Soccer World Cup final stadium, Soccer City, has been postponed.
National Stadiums spokesperson Brescia Bianco-Badenhorst said the case was postponed because there were no judges available at the High Court in Johannesburg.
The stadium was called ‘the FNB Stadium’ before the recent World Cup but it was changed to Soccer City during the tournament as FIFA did not allow the names of stadiums to include corporate brand names.
FNB has since launched an urgent application to keep the naming rights to Soccer City which is currently managed by National Stadiums.
The name Soccer City was scheduled to change to the National Stadium on 21st August for the Springbok's first-ever Test at the venue against the All Black's in a Tri-Nations match.
