Belgium F1 race future in doubt

Belgium F1 race future in doubt- 13 Aug 2010 00:00:00

Organisers of the Belgian F1 Grand Prix are anxious about the future of the Spa-Francorchamps race after 2012.

Although 40,000 tickets have been sold so far for the race on 29th August, the officials have said that Spa is under increasing pressure from other international venues that are spending more money.

Spokesman Christian Lahaye said: ‘We hope to reach the figure of 2007, with 65 000 tickets sold, to allow us to achieve a balanced financial position.’

The head of the Grand Prix Andre Maes admitted that ‘there is no shortage of candidates,’ that could take Belgium’s place on the calendar.

It is thought that the future of the race may depend on whether the annual calendar will be upped to 25 races.
