IMPROVED PAY DEAL FOR SA CRICKETERS

IMPROVED PAY DEAL FOR SA CRICKETERS- 25 Aug 2010 00:00:00

Professional cricketers in South Africa have secured their futures with a new and improved playing contract after the SA Cricketers' Association (SACA), Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the six franchises put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The new contract sees the every professional cricketer in the country handed around 20% of the income generated by CSA.

The ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ (MOU) was signed in Johannesburg and ensures that the players’ receive a large sum of money that will keep them playing in South Africa.

SACA chief executive Tony Irish said of the deal: ‘Apart from money it regulates player contract numbers, player commercial programmes, match scheduling guidelines, conditions on which players are released to IPL and county cricket and player representation on various cricket committees.’

‘The MOU ensures that out of every R100 made by Cricket South Africa approximately R20 goes to the players. The players are effectively shareholders in the game, not just players on the field, so it's in their interests to have an eye on the big picture and not only on runs and wickets.’
