US OPEN WINNERS TO BAG R12.5M- 25 Aug 2010 00:00:00
The singles winners of the US Open tennis tournament will pocket a record R12.5m and even first-round losers will earn R140,000.
The prize money is more than the R11.3m that Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams earned for their Wimbledon triumphs.
Runners-up will also take home around R6.2m whilst Quarterfinalists will earn R1.5m.
The winning doubles team will bag R3m and the victorious mixed doubles team will get R1.1m.
Total prize money for the event that takes place at Flushing Meadows between 30th August to 12th September is just more than R154m - and that excludes expenses of more than R8.8m paid to players.
