SEDIBE CONCERNED AT INFLATED STADIUM COSTS

SEDIBE CONCERNED AT INFLATED STADIUM COSTS- 27 Aug 2010 00:00:00

South African Football Association CEO Leslie Sedibe, has admitted that he is concerned that certain World Cup stadium managements could price the venues ‘out of the market.’

Sedibe said: ‘We are worried about the cost of hiring certain World Cup stadiums. We told parliament recently we will use the stadiums built for the World Cup as part of the legacy from the global event and we accept they have to be sustainable, but the problem is the high cost of hiring these venues.’

It appears that the Sedibe is concerned that there is a danger of venues becoming white elephants because of the up keeping costs involved.

Sedibe claimed that it sould cost around R100,000 and R200,000 just to clean the stadium after a match and the cost of hiring stewards for a exceeds R50,000.

Sesibe also added that SAFA has been forced to increase ticket prices for Bafana’s game against Niger on 4th September at the Mbombela Stadium.

‘Our revenue comes from ticket sales and we get a pittance from our broadcaster, SABC TV,’ said Sedibe.

‘So we have been forced to increase ticket prices. But we believe we are not unreasonable in charging a minimum R50 and a maximum R100 for tickets.’
