BULLS PLAYER POSTS R100,000 BAIL- 31 Aug 2010 00:00:00
Blue Bulls rugby player Jacobus Roux posted R100,000 bail just minutes after being charged with the murder of a metro policeman.
During a court session of apparent confusion about the category of the offence, Roux walked out of the Pretoria Magistrate's Court after posting bail.
Roux is reportedly said to be pleading not guilty to all to the charge as, Roux's lawyer, Rudi Kraus, and prosecutor Matric Luphondo argued for around five hours about whether the conditions for his release on bail should be stricter.
Roux was arrested after being accused of beating to death metro policeman Johannes Mohale after the officer stopped him on suspicion of drink driving.
The state did not oppose bail but suggested that the amount be more than the defence’s offer of R5,000 and Roux, who reportedly earns R850,000 a year, was able to post the bail immediately.
