MARATHON ON COURSE DESPITE NO SPONSOR

MARATHON ON COURSE DESPITE NO SPONSOR- 1 Sep 2010 00:00:00

The organisers of the City to City Marathon have stated that the high number of entries for this year's event will ensure the race is a success despite having no title sponsor.

The race, which starts from Tshwane and ends in Johannesburg, is set to be held on 19th September and the 50km marathon is organised by Central Gauteng Athletics and Athletics Gauteng North.

Mandla Radebe, CGA general manager, said: ‘The City to City Marathon has a rich history in South African athletics. It is one of the oldest road running events, which dates back more than 100 years. There is no way we would have let it die just like that despite having no sponsorship.'

‘CGA, AGN and other stakeholders have been working hard to ensure that we produce a great marathon that all the people of Gauteng and South Africa in general will be proud of,’ added Radebe.

‘It goes without saying that our athletes in road running are hungry, as we have seen with more than 2500 people turning out for the inaugural Maponya Mall Half-Marathon in Soweto last Sunday.'
