SUPERSPORT BACKS BABY JAKE EVENT

SUPERSPORT BACKS BABY JAKE EVENT- 17 Jan 2011 00:00:00

SuperSport has confirmed that it will back the Night of the Big Little Men – the boxing event created in support of South African boxing legend Baby Jake Matlala.

The SA boxing community has come together to support Matlala, who has been struck down by illness, with proceeds from the six-bout tournament going to Matlala.

The event, held at Emperors Palace on 27th January, sees six bouts headlined by Hekkie Budler’s IBO light-flyweight title defence against countryman Gideon Buthelezi.

SuperSport will back the event by airing it live and Matlala has been overwhelmed by the reaction: ‘Apart from the financial aspect, I am grateful for the continued admiration of the South African public, more particularly my friends in boxing,’ he said.

Boxer Stephen Castle has created a unique incentive to raise funds for Matlala by challenging corporates to sponsor him at least R1,000 for every round with an additional R4,000 if he wins against Elvis Moyo.
