South African Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius is claiming over R2 million in damages from a student who allegedly laid a charge of assault against him.

The runner has said that his arrest, and consequent time in custody resulted in a loss of income.

Pistorius missed two public appearances, and two institutions have also refused to renew their ‘trademark ambassador’ agreement with him.

According to media reports, the student had laid a charge of assault with the intent to do serious harm on 12th September 2009.

Pistorius was arrested and released without charge the following day.
