ASA announce selection standards

ASA announce selection standards- 15 Feb 2011 00:00:00

Athletics South Africa (ASA) has announced the selection criteria for this years international events.

ASA now intend to put a greater emphasis on African competitions, including the African junior championships, and the South Region youth and senior championships.

On the eve of the 2011 Yellow Pages athletics season, ASA chairperson James Evans said: ‘it is important for us at ASA to support our fellow Africans. By supporting the Southern Region events with bigger teams, we are able to give more athletes the opportunity to experience international competition’.

In another change to last years criteria, athletes now do not need to compete at certain events to be considered for selection for the World Championships, but they will need to produce the performances required of them.

This means athletes will have to meet, or better the IAAF standards to have a chance to qualify.
In previous years athletes were required to perform in at least three of the Yellow Pages meetings and at the South African Championships.
