Internet streaming call by Rally teams- 8 Apr 2011 00:00:00
World Rally Championship (WRC) manufactures are calling on the sport to endorse live internet streaming in order to move the sport forward.
North One Sport was appointed as the first global promoter of the WRC in 2009, and live internet coverage was one of the goals the company hoped to implement.
Ford's senior motorsport manager Gerard Quinn said: ‘There's a great opportunity for North One Sport to be at the leading edge of technology in bringing rallying to the people through Internet television’.
‘It's great that we are seeing stages in the cities in places like Lisbon and Guanajuato, but we need to focus on the Internet television, that's the future and there's a mass appeal for this. The sport has to go this way soon; the people are waiting for this’.
The WRC season is currently three rallies into its 2011 schedule, with the fourth leg of the campaign in Jordan, from 14th April.
Citroen's team principal, Olivier Quesnel, added: ‘We hear the talk about this, but there is nothing to see. It is very important, but there are many things that are important for the future of the sport’.
