DHL launches hospitality yacht in CT- 20 Oct 2011 00:00:00
DHL, the official logistics partner for the Volvo Ocean Race, has launched its hospitality yacht in Cape Town.
Named ‘Speed of Yellow’, the yacht has a crew of 14 experienced South African yachtsmen under the leadership of Patrick Holloway.
The 43 feet J-133 yacht is based at the Cape Town Royal Yacht Club.
In the time leading up to the arrival in Cape Town of the participating yachts in the Volvo Race towards the end of November, the ‘Speed of Yellow’ will be taking part in the weekly Twilight races in Table Bay as well as in four regattas.
Charles Brewer, managing director for DHL in Sub-Saharan Africa, said: ‘They will be able to get first-hand experience of what it is like to sail on an ocean-going yacht in the company of experienced yachtsmen and learn more about the importance of teamwork, physical endurance, focus, concentration and commitment – all qualities required to be successful in life.’
During the Cape Town stop-over of the participating yachts in the Volvo Ocean Race, DHL will invite guests on board the ‘Speed of Yellow’ and they will be able to race alongside the Volvo fleet in three events – a Pro-Am race, an In-Port race, and during the start of the second leg of the Volvo Race from Cape Town to Abu Dhabi on 10th December.
‘We like to think that the highly visible 'Speed of Yellow’ decked out in its bright yellow and red sails, will add to the excitement that the Volvo Race brings to Cape Town and South Africa,’ Brewer added.
During the nine months of the Volvo Ocean race which starts in Alicante, Spain and ends in Galway Ireland during early July 2012, the seven participating yachts will sail nearly 40,000 nautical miles across the globe.
