Unilever reveals Smit farewell gift- 9 Nov 2011 00:00:00
After Unilever commissioned design and advertising agency Brand inc to
conceptualise and create a farewell gift for former Springbok captain,
John Smit, the portrait was presented to the outgoing skipped at an
event hosted at the Unilever offices.
According to Brand inc,
creative director Judd Quy was given less than 48 hours from brief to
final delivery to complete the task.
The final memento was a
portrait of John Smit shaped out of words that best describe the
sporting hero. The artwork was then printed, framed and delivered to
Unilever in time for the handover on the day.
Quy said: ‘John
is a humble man who has earned the respect the world over, so we wanted
to give him something that encapsulated the very essence of him –
nothing flashy, extravagant or outlandish - something of substance that
would have meaning to both him and Unilever.’
‘The thought of
presenting something that wouldn’t be easily forgotten was an epic task
in itself. So a visual rendering with a difference made sense.’
On hearing John truly appreciated the unique gift from Unilever, Judd revealed he was “chuffed as mustard”.
