No live coverage of SA Davis Cup tie- 2 Apr 2012 00:00:00
Tennis South Africa (TSA) has confirmed that there will be no live coverage of the upcoming three-day Davis Cup tie against Slovenia, to be played at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Complex in Soweto.
TSA media consultant Bruce Davidson told Sport24 that construction work underway at the venue would interfere with camera vantage points, eliminating the possibility of high-standard live coverage.
'Davidson was loathe to comment on whether a financial consideration had played any part in the live blackout - beyond confirming what is common knowledge in that TSA is currently under extreme pressure to obtain a sponsor to bolster the sport in the country,' noted Sport24.
'He said, however, that an overall package of the South Africa-Slovenia tie would be screened on SuperSport within the next couple of weeks.'
The news comes after Kevin Anderson (pictured) and Rik De Voest made themselves unavailable for the tie.
