Tennis SA waives Davis Cup hosting right- 16 May 2012 00:00:00
Tennis SA has waived its right to host the Davis Cup World Group playoff tie against Canada in September because of lack of funding - tournament organizers approved TSA’s request for the switch this week.
Canada will now stage the matchup from 14th to 16th September, although an exact venue is yet to be confirmed.
Tennis South Africa announced that ''current economic conditions'' mean it won't be able to organize the tie.
The switch could work to South Africa’s advantage, with leading player Kevin Anderson - ranked 35 in the world - likely to be in North America for the US Open, which ends on 9th September.
Anderson has recently skipped Davis Cup duties at home.
The winner will earn a place in the top World Group for 2013.
