Manchester United considers SA tour

Manchester United considers SA tour- 23 May 2012 00:00:00

English Premier League runners up Manchester United could be set for a pre-season tour to South Africa in July for a four-club tournament that would also include Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko, according to a report on the Sowetan website.

There was no confirmation of the visit from the Red Devils but it is understood that United representatives were in South Africa last week to discuss logistics.

United were in South Africa three seasons ago to play in the Vodacom Challenge, crushing Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 in the final in Pretoria.

According to the reports, AmaZulu will be United's first opponents at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on 18th July, coinciding with the 94th birthday celebrations of Nelson Mandela.

The final of the tournament is reportedly scheduled for Soccer City on 21st July.

The news follows reports last week that Newcastle United, who finished 5th in the Barclays Premier League this season, could also be on their way to South Africa in the close season.
