SARU disappointed by Bok blackout

SARU disappointed by Bok blackout- 14 Jun 2012 00:00:00

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) has told of its disappointment that the Springbok Test matches with England will not be available on free-to-air television, following the SABC’s decision not to broadcast matches delayed “as live”.

The SABC announced earlier this week that its policy will now be to broadcast only sporting events to which it had the live rights. Springbok matches will continue to be broadcast on 12 SABC radio stations.

Jurie Roux, CEO of SARU, said: ‘We respect the SABC’s decision but it is disappointing from SARU’s perspective and I’m sure from the perspective of rugby supporters.’

According to media reports, Roux added that he hoped that Springbok matches would return to free-to-air television at some point in the future.
