Defending champs kick off MTN8 title defence- 2 Aug 2012 00:00:00

Joburg football fans are set for two MTN8 fixtures this weekend when Orlando Pirates host Bloemfontein Celtic at Orlando Stadium on Friday night and Moroka Swallows entertain Amazulu at VW Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon to open the new season.

The new PSL season officially kicks off when the defending champions take on Bloemfontein Celtic at 8pm on Friday night at Orlando Stadium.

The Swallows versus Amazulu match is much more evenly poised in head-to-head statistics from 2008 to 2012 with two matches ending in draws and three wins a piece for each team. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased from Computicket and Shoprite outlets countrywide. Ticket prices are R40 for adults and R10 for children under 12 years of age, with hospitality packages selling at R950 per person excluding VAT.

Jacques Grobbelaar, Stadium Management SA Chairman, said fans are eager for the start of the new season.

‘After an incredible battle between Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows for the Absa Premiership title at the end of last season as well as the popular and extremely successful Carling Black Label Cup this past weekend where we had a capacity crowd, South African football fans want more of the same nail-biting, thrilling and fast-paced action.’

‘We’re expecting at least 25 000 fans at Orlando Stadium on Friday night and more than 12 000 fans at VW DobsonvilleStadium on Sunday afternoon. We are looking forward to kicking off the new PSL season, that promises to deliver yet more intriguing battles, upsets and jubilation for all in attendance at SMSA’s stadia.’
