Born in Cape Town, lived in Cape Town and educated in Cape Town. Graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1977 with a BA HDE (Post Grad) Sec degree.
Began teaching at Rondebosch Boys’ High in 1978 where I served in the capacity of Head of Biology until 1987. Thereafter, I moved on to the University of Cape Town in 1988 as the Senior Sports Administrator for 4 years.
Western Province Rugby beckoned and I took up the position of Marketing Manager in 1991, moving on to the position of Director of Development and finally to the position of Managing Director of WP Rugby (Pty) Ltd in 1997. I currently hold the position of Group CEO for both the Western Province Rugby Football Union, Western Province Rugby (Pty) Ltd and the Stormers.
My association with Newlands Rugby Stadium began in 1959 when I visited the stadium for my first match. Since then I have been privileged to watch every Test Match at the stadium since 1962. Having been a spectator, having played there from 1973 to 1985, and worked there from 1991, I am suitably qualified to talk about Newlands Rugby Stadium and the sport of rugby.
