Ilhaam Groenewald is currently the Maties sport Chief Director as well as serving on other representative boards and committees. Ilhaam joined Stellenbosch University from the University of the Western Cape where she held the position of director of sport administration for more than a decade. Ilhaam is qualified with a degree in business administration and a Masters degree in sports management.
During 2016, Ilhaam became the first female Executive Council member for SA Rugby and continues to occupy a number of representative roles within the higher education sport environment. These include, among others, being First Vice President of University Sport South Africa (USSA), the Chairperson of the South African Universities Heads of Sport Forum and a member of SASCOC's Major Event and Transformation Commissions.
When Ilhaam joined SA Rugby in 2016, she became the first woman to be appointed to hold a position once occupied by former Springbok player, captain, coach and Union president, Dr Danie Craven. Furthermore, Groenewald is the first woman to become a member of the SA Rugby Executive Council.
This is the second time that Ilhaam has been included as a judge on the Sport Industry Awards, having previously served in 2017.
